The fill number 575 fill power means that 1 ounce of the filler covers 575 cubic inches of space. 650 is a very high fill power. The loft of the bedding is directly related to the fill power, as is the insulating properties.

Thread count is a factor to consider as well. Higher thread counts of 330 or more provide a more dense fabric with a close weave that will prevent filling materials from working their way out of the bedding.

Especially with down/feather bedding, low thread count fabric can result in filling materials working their way through the fabric and escaping. Higher thread count also provides a silkier, luxurious feel to the bedding. Thread count is much more important when buying bedding that contains filling than if you are buying sheets.

The actual construction method of the shell of the bedding is also very important. Inexpensive bedding that contains filling will be constructed with the "sewn-through" method. This means that the bedding is divided into sections by sewing through the top and bottom and coming back through the fabric, much like the way a quilt is constructed.

Top quality bedding, which is more expensive but will last much longer, uses baffle box construction. Fabric is used to create walls inside the bedding in which the fill is placed. This provides the fluffiness of true luxury bedding.

The bedding fill product is allowed to expand to the maximum fluffiness and you will find no cold spots when sleeping under this type of bedding. For the very best bedding, be sure to look for the "closed baffle box" or "true baffle box" construction.

Closed box construction means the filling can not move from section to section. An open box construction or partially open box construction means the filling can move and create bunches and lumpiness.

When large pieces of filled bedding get wet, they are simply too heavy for the home machine. Washing and drying can cause lumping even in good quality products. Dry cleaning is the best method to preserve your quality bedding that contains fill.

Care of your bedding investment is important too. Even if a luxury bedding item that contains fill material says it may be machine washed, you will not want to wash it in your home laundry equipment.

What you spend a mattress pads will depend on what type of material you buy. I can imagine that the new memory foam mattress pads are quite expensive. While I am not sure what they cost, I am about to find out. My bed is old, and my back hurts every morning when I wake up.

They are not something you can just throw into the washing machine, for the most part, but they do need to be cleaned and a regular basis. When you buy your mattress pads, make sure you know that they are made out of a material that can be cleaned. At the very least, you should be able to vacuum them as you do your mattress.

We cannot afford to buy a new bed at this time, so I figure a mattress pad will have to do. I guess if I find that these mattress pads are too expensive, I might as well skip them and save up for a new bed. However, I don’t know how much longer I can put up with the bad back in the morning. No matter what your needs may be, there are mattress pads out there just for you.

Foam Mattress Pad

You want to choose one that is suited for the bed you already own. In other words, you don’t want to look at foam mattress pads for twin size beds if you are sleeping in a queen. Be certain you choose the size that your bed currently is. They can also help a child sleep better as well, which every parent welcomes. It’s a great idea to buy foam mattress pads for every bed in the home, including children’s beds.

This is a wonderful feature as it can provide quite a bit of extra support to the neck and back regions, which seem to be trouble spots for many people. Pillows are also available in this type of memory foam and are a great investment to consider when you are purchasing the pad.

One of the most popular are those that have a memory feature to them. Along with different sizes there are different types available as well. These conform to the shape of your body so that each time you get in bed the mattress pad is already ready just for you.

When you want something for your own bed, there is a lot of great stuff out there, but I have found that when it comes to my daughters stuff, I have very little from which to choose. I wanted to get my daughter new sheets and a comforter for Christmas this year, and I had a hard time finding anything that I liked. Finding great bedding for children can be a harder than one might think.

This has been what I have found anyway. I don’t have a problem with that so much, but now that my daughter is five, I want her to learn to develop her own personality without relying on something else to say who she is.

It would seem that when you are looking for bedding for children, you had better want character themed stuff or you aren’t going to find much. She loves quite a few different children’s shows, and they have a part in her life, but I didn’t want to get her bedding for children that had Dora’s face, or a bunch of dancing princesses.

You can do this too, just know that what you get might be a bit too big for their bed. The ones I have for my little girl hangs on the floor on both sides, but once we get her a new bed next year, it will fit just fine. You can probably find more bedding for children options if you look online.

You are not restricted by geography in this case, and you can find great stuff from all over the world. I found that the selection in the store to be so limited that I had to buy her something meant for must older girls, but at least it was pretty, and had many of her favorite colors in it.

King And Queen Size Mattress

King Size Mattress

When my snippety sister-in-law poked her nosey nose into my bedroom, she exclaimed that there was no way that we had a king size mattress. We all have one of those relatives that make life really, um, interesting. This statement came as a bit of a surprise for two reasons.

First of all, we do own a king size mattress and second, I didn’t remember showing her our bedroom.And of course, she couldn’t stop herself from making an unnecessary comment about the relatively small king size mattress. Of course, she just couldn’t resist poking her head in our most private retreat to neb around.

The next week, we had the uh, pleasure of seeing my nosy sister in law again. This time we were guests in her home. I decided to give her a taste of her own medicine. I poked my head in her bedroom but I was pretty disappointed to see a king size mattress that was actually bigger than ours.

This whole episode made me a little aggravated. A little criticism is one thing but when you attack a person’s sleeping space you have really stepped over the mark. Actually, I did think that our king size mattress was a little small compared to others. I just didn’t know why.

Of course, she led us down her grand hall to make way to her grand bedroom with her freakishly oversized king size mattress. I was really ready to just go home and plop down on my relatively tiny bed and cry myself to sleep. I decided to do a little research instead.

How could this be, I thought ?

One king size mattress should be the same size as another, right? I wound up keeping my mouth shut for most of the evening, stewing in my jealous steam when my, err, lovely sister in law suggested that we take a tour of their lovely home. The whole thing made me want to toss dessert. I mean at her head.

Evidently, my sister in law invested in a California king instead of the standard deal. As it turns out, not all king size mattress styles are created equal. I went online and purchased a California-sized bed for my home. I also bought some bed raisers to make the king size mattress stand higher than hers.

Queen Size Mattress

Some people try to go out of their way to convince others that there likes or dislikes are the only way there is, I on the other hand think that life would be quite boring if we all liked the same thing and thought the same way. Everyone has there own sense of taste and comfort. What may be beautiful, practical and comfortable to one person, does not appeal to another. Also we would definitely have a problem with supply and demand if everyone wanted the same products and services.

Our first home had a large master bedroom, but the two guest rooms were very small. We had twin beds in each room and that did not leave much room for anything else. My husband and I have been able to afford comfortable homes throughout our marriage. We have upgraded each time we moved to have bigger rooms and more amenities.

When we moved to a larger house we up graded to queen size mattresses in the guest rooms. We have always had queen size mattresses for our bed, and it seemed easier in buying sheets and bed spreads, to have all the same size mattresses.

There are many grades of mattresses to consider when buying one. We did not have a great deal of money to spend on the queen size mattresses in the spare rooms. We wanted to make sure that guests were comfortable, but we did not think it was necessary to buy top of the line.

The sales person showed us two queen mattresses that they had in the warehouse on clearance sale. The manufacture has changed the fabric of the mattress covers for the new models so the old ones are discontinued. There is still a warranty on the mattresses; the only difference is the color of the fabric cover.

The sales person at one of the stores we went to was very helpful in pointing out the features and advantages of each grade of mattress. We explained that the queen size mattresses in the spare rooms would have occasional use only. We estimated four nights a month, which is probably much higher use estimation than we will really have.

We figure that with the occasional use these will get, we will not have to purchase new mattresses for many years. When you are in the market for new beds, especially if they are for guest rooms, check out the clearance items.

The sales person let us know that we could get these two higher quality mattresses for less than the next lower grade. Bedding and Bath

There are a lot of things that I need to get for my home, and the ones I want to get next are the bedding and bath things that I need to replace stuff I have had for a long time. I think it’s time for something new.

Most of the bedding and bath supplies I see in the stores are somewhat expensive. I have learned though, that you really want to spend a lot of money on these things. There are some things you might be able to skimp on, but when you are buying things that touch your body on a regular basis, you really do want to get the best things you can.

I love the comforter we have on our bed, but we have used it for ten years and I think it is time for something new. I spent a lot of money on it when I got it, so it’s not a miracle it is still in good shape, but I am ready for a change. The same can be said for the towels that we have in our bathroom. They are still in pretty good shape, but I want new colors.

When it comes to bedding and bath stores, there are many great ones from which to choose. I personally choose not to buy this type of stuff from discount stores like Wal-Mart, but they do have some decent stuff you can get.

What good is a towel that scratches your body, or won’t absorb the water ?

You end up with sore skin. Something like a towel should be soft no matter how many times you run it through the washer, and should always feel good on your skin.

You may even find that you can find what you want at larger department stores like Macy’s. I get a flyer from them each week, but I have yet to go in. I have to admit they have great stuff, and I think the problem is that they have so much that I can’t choose.

I like to go to the stores that specialize in bedding and bath, because they have the best stuff, the biggest variety of brands, and the most colors. I didn’t care about colors matching when I was younger, but now it is something that I have to have.
Bedding and bath is something that is a bit more personal than perhaps your living room furniture, and I guess that is why I seem to have a hard time settling on one thing. When you wake up in the morning, your bed is the first thing you see, and you want to get something that starts your day off right.

How To Make A Pillow

The first step to making a pillow is to select your fabric and trims. You will also need to select a filling for your pillow, decide what shape you want your pillow to be, and whether you want your pillow to have a removable cover.

As you select your fabric, keep in mind that many decorative pillows are made using at least two contrasting fabrics. Of course, for your first attempt at making a decorative pillow, you may only want to use one fabric. There are several important things you should keep in mind when you are choosing fabrics.

Knit fabrics and slippery materials are hard to work with.
Thin cotton fabrics do not usually make a spectacular pillow unless you are using a quilt block design.
Geometric prints are more difficult to work with than random designs, since you will need to match the prints up.

Pillow form is the best choice of pillows filling, since you certainly wouldn't want to have to remove loose stuffing to wash the pillow and then replace it again after the pillow was clean. However, most decorative pillows are made without removable covers and can be stuffed with polyester fiber filling or chopped foam.
